My name is Herry, I am 30 years old and work as a project manager in a well-known IT company. I have a happy family, loving parents, and a lovely sister. Although my life seems perfect, there is always a name lingering in my heart — Faye.

Faye was my first love in college, and we spent many unforgettable times together. After graduation, due to the pressure of work and life, we gradually drifted apart and eventually parted ways. Despite this, I still can’t forget her. Whenever it’s late at night, I will think of her gentle smile and the good times we spent together.

I knew that this kind of yearning was in vain, but I couldn’t control my emotions. One day, I suddenly thought, if I change the way I express my yearning, will Fayealso miss me strongly? So I started to try to express my emotions in three different ways.

The first sentence was: “Do you know? I often meet you in my dreams.” This sentence not only expresses my longing for Faye but also has a dreamy romance. I believe that every woman hopes to appear in the dream of her lover because this symbolizes her importance in the other’s heart. When I said this to Faye, a hint of surprise and touch flashed in her eyes.

The second sentence was: “Sometimes I wonder how nice it would be if we were still together.” This sentence revealed a kind of regret and nostalgia, which made Faye feel my cherished of the good old days and my vision for the future. She told me that she had had the same thought, but we both chose to escape. This exchange brought us closer.

The third sentence was: “But I also understand that life must move forward, and I just hope you can be happy.” This sentence showed my maturity and tolerance, and let Faye see that I care about her. She told me that she has always been grateful for my company and dedication, and she also hopes that I can find my happiness.

These three sentences sublimated the relationship between Faye and me. Although we didn’t get back together, our longing and concern for each other became deeper. Whenever I think of her, I will recall the good times these three sentences brought us.

Through this experience, I deeply realized that the way of expressing emotions is very important. Sometimes, a simple and sincere word can make the other person feel your heart and bring you closer. However, those empty expressions such as “I miss you” often seem to lack sincerity and depth.
